"We invite everybody to join us in the Great Walk in Solidarity with Immigrants," said state Sen. Rubén Díaz (D-South Bronx), who also is an evangelical pastor and the coordinator of the protest. "There is a great deal of enthusiasm, and we expect thousands of people."
Marchers will gather at the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday at 11 a.m. They will cross the bridge and proceed toward the Immigration Building at 26 Federal Plaza."
For those of you who haven't an inkling what this is all about...
"The U.S. House of Representatives has passed legislation that would make it a felony to be in the U.S. illegally, impose new penalties on employers who hire illegal immigrants, require churches to check the legal status of people they help, and erect fences along one-third of the U.S.-Mexican border."
That is a very compact version which boils down to "if you are helping an illegal immigrant in any way, you are commiting a felony" according to a CNN reporter yesterday. This, in my opinion, is a bit ridiculous.
Anyway, for anyone interested who is local, here's the information. Pass it on, come out to the march, gather more information, whatever. Just make sure you know what is going on with our government right now, because there is so much that is extremely shady.
